The tool didn't grab, I cranked the part right into the cutter in a moment of inattention.

SiGraybeardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00280583031339062059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1592992209402300549.post-91366665108754594352016-05-02T07:14:03.700-04:002016-05-02T07:14:03.700-04:00RE: Entropy - I think it's not the wrong word,...RE: Entropy - I think it's not the wrong word, but indicative of prematurely expressing an incompletely developed thought.

According the the folks at Merriam-Webster:

Definition of entropy

1
: a measure of the unavailable energy in a closed thermodynamic system that is also usually considered to be a measure of the system's disorder, that is a property of the system's state, and that varies directly with any reversible change in heat in the system and inversely with the temperature of the system; broadly : the degree of disorder or uncertainty in a system

2
a : the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity b : a process of degradation or running down or a trend to disorder

3
: chaos, disorganization, randomness

In that context, entropy is the natural state of all energy-based systems, and can be prevented (resisted?) only by application of some form of energy. The Edsel and New Coke didn't fail because of entropy, they failed because the information used to create them was faulty; in that context, as you intimate, information constitutes . I'll concede that entropy is a consistent factor, and that perhaps with more frequency than we comprehend insufficient energy - i.e., information - permits entropy to become a primary influencing factor.
