There's a submarine basin in the port, and a county park or two as well as the cruise ship docks. Every mission is followed by OCISLY coming back into port and a crowd that goes out to meet them. Go fishing in the water or from the jetty and see the used rockets coming back in.

Last week, their recovery ship for the Crew Dragon capsule was out training, and rescued a local boater who had a bad thing happen. He'd gone overboard to remove fouling from his prop and however he was tied to the boat became untied (if he was tied...) He had called the Coasties before going in the water and the SpaceX ship, GO Search did exactly that (went searching) and found the guy. It could have well been a fatal thing if he hadn't been found.

SiGraybeardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00280583031339062059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1592992209402300549.post-18549587865924543942020-05-13T22:54:15.866-04:002020-05-13T22:54:15.866-04:00I remember the booster that slid off the recovery ...I remember the booster that slid off the recovery ship!

Several of their West coast launches docked the recovery ship in L.A. Harbor, down the channel a bit from the Iowa. If you went up a couple of decks you could easily see all of the booster and barge.
