I have a good friend who left the electronics industry rat race a couple of years ago; moved north and settled on a farm in some of the new natural gas country (and I've got to say that's a very tempting idea). She sends me this interesting news item:
On May 20, the Department of Energy gave approval for Cheniere Energy Inc. to export 2.2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day from its Sabine Pass, La., port terminal - the first approval of overseas export of U.S.-produced gas from the lower 48 states.I can see why Cheniere might want to do that. If they can get a better price from countries that don't have gas, I can see why they'd want to export their product. But Texas billionaire T. Boone Pickens, said,
I've got to say I've thought that.... Then I realized T Boone is optimistic. We're going to go down in history as the nation that committed suicide by being so afraid to use any form of energy that we just laid down and died. Sort of like the people of Miranda."So here we are, we’re exporting our clean-burning fuel (nat gas) and importing dirty oil… We’re gonna go down as the dumbest crowd in history…"

Look at the states in the east coast where there's tons of gas and high unemployment. Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, into New England.

"If elected, if the EPA will no grant permits to extract gas from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York, I'll fire them."
Well, we were hard if not impossible to beat, militarily.
ReplyDeleteSo we had to be broken morally and spiritually. And that has been accomplished, in large part.
It seems we've lost the will to survive, as a society, anyway. All but a small percentage of people, that is.

ReplyDeleteOn the off chance that readers today or some months from now don't know what Scott's talking about, a few years ago, T. Boone Pickens made a very public push to harvest the winds of the Texas/Oklahoma plains.
ReplyDeleteIn reality, it was at least partly a subtle attempt to get water rights to the entire Ogallala aquifer, the biggest aquifer in the central US. His efforts to obtain imminent domain rights to run a pipeline from the Texas panhandle/Oklahoma border down to Dallas-Ft.Worth showed the real intent. Of course, any wind farm in that area is going to require long transmission lines to get the power onto the national grid. I'm sure it's just a coincidence he wanted to run water pipelines and powerlines together.
