The "Whip it Out" Meme

The "show me your EDC knife" meme seems to go back to Og.  Here's mine:
It's my second Cold Steel knife, and a real gun show bargain.  Very much like the 4" TiLite with Zytel handle here, but with a black finished steel blade.  I've carried several different knives, but this has been my EDC for a few months.  If you're a long time reader, you know I've made a few knives and am studying how to make serious blades.

  1. My Kershaw 1670 Black Blur Tanto is my normal EDC, but when I travel - especially where assisted-opening knives may be deemed "illegal", I carry my Emerson CQC7 Wave Tanto. The Blur gets used for cutting stuff I wouldn't touch with the Emerson, which I carry strictly for defensive use.

There are a few cities - like Boston, IIRC - where even the Wave is too evil for the State to countenance. But most LEO aren't aware of the Wave function, unless you are foolish enough to demonstrate it for them.

  2. Hey, I'm in Boston right now! (And I'm carrying a small Rough Rider congress pattern slip joint)

My EDC knives usually consist of one larger knife (Spyderco: Paramilitary 2, Gayle Bradely, Manix 2, Centofante 3, Endura, Native; Cold Steel: American Lawman, Recon 1; Benchmade: 710, 581 Barrage, 950 Rift, Bone Collector, Harley Hardtail; Kershaw: Lahar, Rake) and one smaller one (Spyderco: Cat, Chaparral, Dragonfly; Cold Steel Mini Tuff Lite; Benchmade: 707 Sequel, 556 Mini-Grip). I've got a few more that I can't recall right now, but I've been collecting interesting knives for years so I have quite a collection at this point. I have enough great knives that its sometimes a difficult decision picking out one to carry - I like them all!

  3. LA - be careful. Boston cops are _not_ noted for their supporrt of the Constitution. I heard one Boston cop say anyone carrying two knives was a criminal, as there was no good reason to carry two knives. He also insisted that knives were strictly offensive, no possible defensive use, in his opinion.

Be it ordained by the City Council of Boston, as follows:
That CBC, Ordinances, Chapter 16 be amended by inserting the following new language:

16-45 PROHIBITING THE CARRYING OF KNIVES OR SIMILAR WEAPONS

16-45.1 Carrying of Weapons Prohibited. No person, except as provided by law, shall carry on his person, or carry under his control in a vehicle, any knife having any type of blade in excess of two and one-half (2 1/2”) inches, (except when actually engaged in hunting or fishing or any employment, trade or lawful recreational or culinary activity which customarily involves the carrying or use of any type of knife, or (b) in going directly to and/or returning directly from such activities, or © if the knife is being transported directly to or from a place of purchase, sharpening, or repair, and if packaged in such a manner as not to allow easy access to the knife while it is being transported), ice picks, dirks or similar weapons that are likely to penetrate through police officer’s ballistic vests, or other object or tool so redesigned, fashioned, prepared or treated that the same may be used to inflict bodily harm or injury to another.

16-45.2 Distribution Exception. This section shall not apply to persons who, through entities or establishments engaged in a recognized retail or wholesale business, are involved in the sale, purchase or repair of knives for trade, sport, hobby or recreation, including without limitation persons engaged in the transportation to or form such entities or establishments.
