We'll Always Have Paris

Maybe you had to have grown up in Florida to appreciate this, but Michael Ramirez' cartoon had me giggling uncontrollably for a while yesterday.
The referred Coppertone billboard ad was a regular feature of my childhood, going across the MacArthur Causeway to the beach.  Mrs. Graybeard recalls that as a little girl, as in 3 or 4, she was afraid to go to the beach, thinking bands of roaming dogs would this to her.

  1. What's with the tiny Superman in the background?

  2. You know, I thought it was supposed to just be someone on the beach waving, but the colors sure look more like superman.

I have no idea no what that's supposed to be about!

  3. It's the red cape that cinches it for me.

  4. It's easier than that. Ramirez copied an old Coppertone ad. You can find a bunch with Image search, but an example is here. Just a woman in blue one piece with a red towel or robe or something.

  5. Oh. Well, that certainly makes sense, but now I'm a bit sad that the mystery is gone. ;)
