Rashida Tlaib Accidentally Told the Truth

Congress Critter Rashida Tlaib (D - Uranus) accidentally told the truth and provided the best argument against what she was supposed to be arguing for.  Legal Insurrection blog carries the story that Tlaib was trying to advocate that taxpayers should pay off the student loans of everyone in America and demonstrated it's going to be a wealth transfer from middle class working people to the richest workers in America.

Ms. Tlaib, a member of The Squad, those young, aggressively socialist women who seem to actually be running Washington DC, told her own sob story of still paying off her loans to attend law school and get that job as one our "betters" in Mordor on the Potomac.  The Hill Tweeted this summary.

The response was instant and epic.  First off, Alec Schemmel of KOMO News quoted the rest of her sob story and pointed out how she inadvertently showed the case against the fed.gov taking responsibility for all student loans (don't buy the widespread lie that this is student loan "forgiveness".  The banks aren't going to forgive anything, they're going to get bailed out on your tax bill.)

“I worked full time, Monday through Friday, and took weekend classes to get my law degree. And still, close to $200,000 in debt. And I still owe over $70,000 and most of it was interest,” Tlaib said during oral arguments on the House floor. “And guess what? I didn’t go to the for-profit entities, I went to legal aid, I worked at the nonprofit organization fighting for the right to breathe clean air, to fight for the worker that was getting their wage taken and stolen from their employer. I went and worked on immigrant rights and so much more,” she continued.

Notice how she didn't point out that as a member of congress she's now making $174,000 a year and she's no longer working for those nonprofits organizations she wants you to think of.  A salary of $174k/year puts her well into the "richest 10%" (someone in the article quotes that as being "in the middle of the top 8%") and yet she wants people making a third of what she does (or less) to pay off her student loans.

I thought she hates the rich and wants them to pay for everything, but she's one of them.  I'm sure she doesn't think of herself as rich.  She's a working woman, right?  Jazz Shaw of Hot Air added some much needed perspective to her sob story.

Further, Tlaib sought to glorify herself for having gone to work in lower-paying jobs for non-profit organizations after graduating. But when a person who is that far in debt chooses such a career path, that’s their own individual choice. She had a law degree from a well-regarded university and law school. She should have easily been able to find better-paying work in the private sector so she could take care of her obligations and then move on to more altruistic fields once she was financially stable.

There's a lot of stupidity in the idea of having taxpayers pay off everyone's student loans, but the most concentrated stupidity is probably exactly what she very clearly shows here.  The average student with a four year degree has student loans much less than her debt.  The average debt of the entire population with a student loan is $37k.  The majority of student loan payoff money is going to go to people with professional and other graduate degrees: doctors, lawyers, dentists, MS and Ph.D. engineers and others who are in the top 10% of salaries.

It's upper class welfare.  Perhaps she's trying to appeal to the donor class.  If those professionals who will benefit from this have gratitude to her party, perhaps they'll donate more.  And perhaps she's just another pig at the trough, looking for more slop like all the other pigs.

  1. Someone else's debt is not my problem. Part of my college came from a scholarship. Beyong that, I lived cheap, worked and paid off my loan. Let the current crop do the same.

  2. Part of any loan agreement is that the loanee promises to pay the loan back, with interest. All legal loans (and many illegal ones) have provisions for to how to pay it off early (pay the principle and not the interest with extra cash, saves one a ton.) Legal. Moral. Ethical. All in the paperwork the loanee signs to get loan money from the loaner.

What this ditz, and AOC, said was basically, "Stuff it, peons, you aren't worthy enough to be able to grift your way out of loans you promised to pay. But we're special, so are all our little socialist followers, so suck it up and bow to our magnificence and pay our loans back even though we could do it ourselves."

    Yeah, no.

I'll gladly donate about a buck's worth of cupric-lined plumbum of one form or another to their demise. (no, not really. geez, can't a guy say bad things? what's worse, robbing every poor person or fantasize about some kinetic therapy and not actually doing the therapy?)

  3. If she's so butthurt about her debt, what say she lives on minimum wage x 40 hrs./wk., and the rest of her congressional salary is allocated straight to that debt, until it's completely paid off?

She'd be debt free in 6 months, and eating chicken salad and soup from now until then.

    1. and if people with student loan debt are so inclined, I'd be fine with them working for minimum wage Saturdays and Sundays cleaning federal property like parks and monuments, as well as all federal interstate highways, 8 hours/day, with all proceeds, tax-free, going straight to their lender, for full credit.

If they want to work at inner city clinics for the Public Health Service, or teach ghetto kids to read, same deal.

Otherwise, get a second job, STFU, and pay your bills.

I would even go so far as to give them tax-free status on any second job job where 100% of their earnings are automatically sent directly to their lender, and only calculate their taxes based on their primary job.

That hurts no one but the IRS (huzzah!), and eases the current nationwide labor shortage/laziness surplus.

    2. If you had them doing that work, my bet is they instead would be painting graffiti everywhere whilst there.

    3. Have you seen the price of salad makings lately? She would have to live on Ramen noodles, which are still pretty cheap.

  4. Debt is destroying this country, and warping the world. We're no longer in some sane economic system where a loan is an agreement between depositors and a borrower mediated by a bank.

The availability of unreal amounts of unbacked credit, (or national debt backed credit) along with removal of protections for the borrower common to any civilized culture, has driven the price of everything into the stratosphere. With prices far beyond what anyone can afford, for things essential to life like housing and medicine (and arguably, since no one will hire the younger generation without a degree for anything that isn't slave labor, education), taking on this ridiculous debt is no longer avoidable. How large is your mortgage? Your children will have to pay 5x that for a more miserably constructed shack. "Just pay it back" doesn't work anymore, and moralizing about pulling yourself out of a blackhole by your bootstraps is just going to ensure everyone ends up a slave to the money-creators.

The empire of the dollar is dying: Nothing can stop it at this point. The government can't stop printing money to keep their minions in the lifestyle to which they've become accustomed, driving absurd inflation everywhere else. What needs to happen is for it to die too hard and too fast for them to revalue everyone's debt and steal everything of real worth. If they're given time, our new aristocracy will buy up all the land and resources, and ensure that the current generation of serfs (just about everyone) can never escape the trap. Argentina revalued everyone's dollar-backed bank accounts to worthless currency, and revalued everyone's debts to hard currency, and immiserated their nation in the 2008 crash. Don't let it happen here.

Moral pissing on debtors is just going to play right into their hands.

    1. PS: I say this as someone who paid his undergrad loans.

Not that you can trust statistics from Democrats, but that 50 million number seems right: You need a bachelor's degree these days to do anything that pays enough to live, outside of certain skilled trades (and even that is uncertain, on both ends, for various reasons anymore.)

So 50 million Americans are permanent debt slaves for life. (That $37k number seems out of data - probably a lagging indicator of what school costs currently.) (More than half, really, because even tradesmen eventually need somewhere to *LIVE*.) About half the young up-and-coming generation. Do you think this social order is going to last? Do you think "lol, just work it off, like I did" (even though they will never be able to) is going to inspire anything but genocidal rage against the current order? These people are going to be the footsoldiers of a communist revolution if conservatives cannot get off their moral high horse. Leave the Marie Antoinette act to the Democrats.

Rashida Tlaib and Occasio Cortez are great for getting up your nose, aren't they? They are ridiculous, offensive, and great for dividing and conquering the remnants of this absurd nation.

  5. And don't forget all the money that Rashida makes from speeches, etc. There's a reason they end up being worth tens of millions on $174,000 a year. (Hint: it's not the $174,000 a year).

  8. I put myself through college with the help of the GI bill which barely covered just tuition. The first two years we funded totally by me. I paid for two masters degrees for my wife and a Specialist degree in education. I paid for a BS and MS in Biology for my daughter. I paid for my son's BS in business.

I be damned if I am going to pay for anybody else's college. Especially for some cunt who makes over $100K a year.
